How did the Help Education Tacloban Foundation came about?

One of the founders of the Foundation, Rebecca van Kan – Tayag, was a teacher at this school for a long time. She knows, better than anybody else, what kind of problems this school has to deal with. As her current husband, Hub. van Kan, visited her for the first time, he also visited the school and noticed that the teachers had to buy all kind of materials themselves. Asking why, he was told that the school simply cannot afford to buy these materials itself.

Meanwhile, Rebecca lives no longer in Tacloban (Philippines). Since 2002 she lives in Rijckholt (the Netherlands), nevertheless her heart still goes out to the San Fernando Elementary School. Together with her husband she came up with the idea to help the school. Soon after, they contacted other people to help with this project. As from that moment the Help Education Tacloban Foundation was a fact.

The logo is the outline of Tacloban City with inside the abbreviation of the Foundation (HET)

Founding

The memorandum of association dates back to April 13, 2006. The board of the foundation takes care of all the overhead costs. Nobody gets a payment. Therefore we can guarantee that all donations will be spent for 100% on the improvement of education in Tacloban.
